The day after Christmas

This is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. Ben Fold's Five sang the first line of their song "Brick" as "6 a.m. day after Christmas". From that line, you know it's a sad song.

I am not too depressed today. I need to go shopping. I need to figure out what to do with my life. I need to start again instead of being in a stand still. It's frustrating, worry some and did I mention frustrating?

I shall find something eventually. I need to find my place. I need to be patient.

Feliz Navidad

Hey I still know enough spanish to get me around. Ki Sun and I cooked some turkey and stuffing for Christmas dinner today. It was delicious. The mashed taters gave it that fresh yummy touch. The kitties went psycho as usual when we're in the kitchen cooking. They act like we haven't fed them in 2 years. Crazy.

Christmas tree is still up and I"m ready to take it down. I'll make sure it's new years before I take down my holiday cheer. I am ready for a new year. I'm ready for a new start. I need it. I'm sure most of you do as well. This year was really hard on me emotionally and physically. I have learned from these experiences and I will make sound choices based on these lessons.

It's Christmas Eve

And I'm home right now. I'm thinking of taking my bike out and riding that a bit. Hope everyone's evening goes well. I hope everybody stays safe over the holiday season. Congratulations on everybody making it this far this year. Best of luck in the new year.

Christmas

Tree is up! Ki Sun and I put it up yesterday. We also found 2 new ornaments, related to music no less, to put on the tree! We need a new tree skirt because the cats made the one we have all hairy! The tree is beautiful.

We watched "The Polar Express" and "The Family Stone". Movies always get me in the mood.

I finished my paper that is due on Tuesday. I found four different journal articles that positively correlated emotional stress to physical stress. So I decided to summarize all four. I slacked on it because it was easy to do. I finished it yesterday! More reason to get it done earlier, but if anyone reading this knows me, I had more things occupying my mind this last week.

"Try and think positive Annita", is what I keep telling myself. It works for the most part. I have friends here that I am very thankful for. These friends have become my family. Thanks to you all. Thanks to my family. Even though my other family is across the country, I thank them as well.

Extra Funny for your enjoyment!

Weekend Funny

Holiday Gloom

What is the worst thing you can think of to happen around Christmas? One of those things has happened to me. I may not be working at my job come Monday due to inappropriate internet use during work. This is unfair for 1 reason, and 1 reason only: I am not the only one that uses the internet at work. If this were the case, other people should be dismissed as well. I will keep this short and brief, for the sake of time and discretion.

I am a hard worker and go out of my way to find extra work. Me using the internet has not inhibited my productivity at all during work hours. I go above and beyond the call of duty to make my job, and the people around me run smoothly.

I will take it as it comes. No need in worrying about it this weekend. I have better things to do with my time. I will keep a positive attitude, and whatever happens, happens. Thanks to all who have been supportive of me in this difficult time. I appreciate you all. Pray for me.

Christmas Holly

Jolly and stuff like that. Sometimes I turn the station to the Christmas music and listen to it. Other times I get so sick of the "joy" being shoved into my face, I can't help but turn the station, or just shut the radio off. I believe if it wasn't all about commercialism, I would enjoy it a little bit better. Decorations help. Being obligated to get everybody something isn't enjoyable for me, especially when I don't have much money this time of year.

I am mad that I get no Christmas break from work. I'll definitely request it off in January so I can take it in December. It's not fair, but I have to take the punches as they come. Unfair is unfair. No other way to put it. "Be tough, life isn't fair" is what I'll hear. I am aware of this, but doesn't make the pain and anger, and the many annoyances I have go away about the situation. "Buck up" doesn't help either. Just let me feel how I want to feel, and have my holiday how I choose to spend it. I will get my Christmas tree up this year and hopefully my mood will get better once I have some Christmas cheer in my house. The kitties love the tree and it's so adorable to see them sitting under it.

Merry Christmas. Hopefully.

Knitting!

I have started going to a group that is for women who knit. I was surprised to see as many young people like myself there as I did! I actually brought some needlepoint to the group and I was very impressed at the knitting technique the ladies used. There were different projects going on and it made me want to start something! It may be my new hobby of the year! That and of course, reading.

Durham Jazz

We have a concert on January 16th, 2008 at Broad Street Cafe in Durham! Here's the poster we have for it. How does it look?

I'm really excited!

This time of year

Sleigh bells are ringing, children are calling "yoo hoo" and all that crap. Stores are filled with people wanting to get their Christmas presents, and shoving people to get to the front of the Wal-Mart line. Drivers are crazy to get to the latest deal, and cut me off when I'm trying to get to Jazz Band rehearsal! I might just ride my motorcycle with Larry on Friday to relax from all this Christmas Joy crap. People need to be nicer around this time but they are even more annoying! Malls are crowded on the weekends, and I still haven't found a good dress for the Christmas party this weekend. I guess it's not a big deal. I'd like my dresses to fit me though.

Lets concentrate on getting through this holiday season in one peace. If that happens, it'll be more of a blessing than anything anyone would ever buy me.

This is classic!

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.

Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.

We should have known... ONLY women would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

Rules to follow when wrapping presents with cats!

Wrapping Presents (With a Cat)

1. Clear large space on table for wrapping present.
2. Go to wardrobe and collect bag in which present is contained, and close
door.
3. Open door and remove cat from wardrobe.
4. Go to cupboard and retrieve rolls of wrapping paper.
5. Go back and remove cat from cupboard.
6. Go to drawer and collect transparent sticky tape, ribbons, scissors,
labels, etc.
7. Lay out present and wrapping materials on table, to enable wrapping
strategy to be formed.
8. Go back to drawer to get string, remove cat that has been in the drawer
since last visit, and collect string.
9. Remove present from bag.
10. Remove cat from bag.
11. Open box to check present, remove cat from box, replace present.
12. Lay out paper to enable cutting to size.
13. Cut the paper to size, trying to keep the cutting line straight.
14. Throw away first sheet because cat tried to chase the scissors and
tore the paper.
15. Cut second sheet of paper to size by putting cat in the bag the present
came out of.
16. Place present on cut-to-size paper.
17. Lift up edges of paper to seal in present, wonder why edges now don't reach,
and find cat between present and paper. Remove cat and retry.
18. Place object on paper, to hold in place, while cutting transparent sticky
tape.
19. Spend next 20 minutes carefully trying to remove transparent sticky tape
from cat with pair of nail scissors.
20. Seal paper down with transparent sticky tape, making corners as neat as
possible.
21. Look for roll of ribbon; chase cat down hall and retrieve ribbon.
22. Try to wrap present with ribbon in a two-directional turn.
23. Re-roll up ribbon and remove paper that is now torn, due to cat's
enthusiasm in chasing ribbon end.
24. Repeat steps 12-22 until down to last sheet of paper.
25. Decide to skip steps 12-16 in order to save time and reduce risk of losing
last sheet of paper. Retrieve old cardboard box that you know is right
size for sheet of paper.
26. Put present in box, and tie down with string.
27. Remove string, open box and remove cat.
28. Put all packing materials in bag with present and head for lockable room.
29. Once inside room, lock door and start to re-lay out packing materials.
30. Remove cat from box, unlock door, put cat outside door, close door and
re-lock.
31. Lay out last sheet of paper. (Admittedly this is difficult in the small area
of the toilet, but try your best!)
32. Seal box, wrap with paper and start repairs by very carefully sealing down
tears with transparent sticky tape. Now tie up with ribbon and decorate
with bows to hide worst affected areas.
33. Label, then sit back and admire your handiwork, congratulating yourself on
making good of a bad job.
34. Unlock door, and go to kitchen to make drink and feed cat.
35. Spend next 15 minutes looking for cat, before coming to obvious conclusion.
36. Unwrap present, untie box and remove cat.
37. Retrieve all discarded sheets of wrapping paper, feed cat and retire to
lockable room for last attempt, making certain you are alone and the door
is locked.
38. At time of handing over present, smile sweetly at receiver's face, as they
try and hide their contempt at being handed such a badly wrapped present.
39. Swear to yourself that next year, you will get the store to wrap the darn
thing for you.

Too adorable not to share!
